Style
My second grade class voted on a word to use in a sentence last week. They choose style. On Friday, a cute little girl reported she had used the word after getting dressed that morning. She told her mother she wore dresses because that is "her style." When she said those words, she placed her hand on her hip with attitude like a mini model posing for a photo shoot. It was cute and we both laughed.
But it did get me thinking. As writers we spend a lot of time trying to pinpoint what publishers want from us instead of focusing on what it is we enjoy writing. We should spend more time pinpointing "our style." In time, the publishers will probably want what we have and we'll already have books waiting for them. We'll be ahead of the crowd, instead of chasing after it.
Until next week,
happy writing!
