The re-release of ENCHANTING THE BEAST is in bookstores, and I've got a contest to celebrate!
In case you missed my post on why ENCHANTING THE BEAST is one of my favorite books, I'm posting it below...along with all the release information of this magical book!
1. The hero, Nico, holds such an element of mystery and danger that he's suspected of murdering the local girls. Of course, my heroine, Philomena, sees his true heart and knows he's innocent...
2. A heroine much older than my hero. It was fun. And a bit hard...holding complexities to their relationship that I had to work through.
3. There's a haunted castle. I adore castles. Making them haunted was an added bonus. Having them haunted by a handsome blue knight only made it better.
4. There's a major mystery. Although all my books hold some sort of mystery, a reason for my reader to keep turning the pages in curiosity, there's a major element of it in Enchanting the Beast. Skulking in the bowels of the castle looking for a treasure map. Hints and clues about who might be killing the local girls...and how it could be all tangled up in another search for one of Merlin's relics. It was such fun, and probably one of the most difficult books I ever wrote, giving enough clues so that it's logical who the killer is, but holding back just enough that we can't ever be quite sure who it is until we get to the end.
5. Sarah. Pluckett. She's my heroine's assistant. And she's a were-snake. I guess she's kinda scary in a way, but there's a scene where she starts to shed her skin that had me laughing. An example of my sometimes rather odd sense of humor.
6. Tup. He's Philomena's spirit guide. But he's haunting her for deeper reasons, and those touched my heart.
7. The romance. The passion. Again, all my books are filled with it. But it was a lot of fun dealing with a younger man and older woman in the bedroom. Let's just say, I hope it's as good for you as it was for me.
8. Which brings me right back around to my hero again. A moonless night watching fairylights flicker in the distance. A kiss as gentle as it is frightening. Sliding down a haystack. Perspiration gleaming off a naked chest. A secluded grotto with rain pounding from above, and below...
Yes, there are many reasons why I adore this book, and these are just a few. I hope you can add your own to my list as well.
ENCHANTING THE BEAST BY KATHRYNE KENNEDY--IN STORES APRIL 2014
DARK THINGS LURK IN GRIMSPELL CASTLE
Sir Nicodemus Wulfson is haunted by memories of murder--and ghosts. He brings in a ghost-hunter in the form of celebrated spiritualist Lady Philomena Radcliff, and promptly, all hell breaks loose. Is Phil a threat to his already suffering family? Or can Nico trust his burgeoning attraction to her?
IS IT HIM SHE SHOULD FEAR?
Lady Philomena has resigned herself to a life of spinsterhood performing seances for the aristocracy--until she meets sexy young were-wolf Sir Nico. She agrees to try ridding his castle of its increasingly restless spirits. But there are more mysteries within Grimspell Castle than even Nico is aware of, and when a local girl turns up dead, Phil wonders if she's risking her life as well as her heart.

"But I LIKE Holding a Book" and Other Myths-Kris Tualla

Okay - I confess it right now.
Uninformed or misguided e-reader comments and complaints make me want to knock heads together. Seriously, if you have not TRIED one, please don't say you don't like them! Give one an honest try. I expect you’ll be surprised.
Because the medium is NOT the delivery method. The medium is the WORD. Words are combined into sentences, paragraphs. Dialog. Setting. The crafting of plot and character.
Let me demonstrate. Read this word: bereft
You understand it. You associate those 6 letters with profound loss, sadness and loneliness. You know how it feels. You can empathize with a person who is bereft.
And you read it off a computer screen.
If you read a string of words like, “Scarlett O’Hara was not beautiful, but men seldom realized it when caught by her charm…” you get a picture of a manipulative woman who knows how to work her assets to catch men. Because of the words. Not the delivery method. Well-crafted stories catch us with their charms.
So, let's say you agree to be open-minded; what are your options? It's a matter of preference, because just about all eBooks are available on all readers.
What all e-reading devices have in common:
· eBooks are generally much less expensive than paper books.
· You OWN the books you buy. They are backed-up online.
· Carry your entire library in your briefcase or your purse.
· eBooks can be borrowed and lent in varying ways.
· Libraries DO lend e-books.
· The size of the font is easily adjustable.
· eBooks are purchased online.
· eBooks are delivered wirelessly directly to the device (except Sony).
· Finish that Twilight book and need the next one at 1:15am? No problem.
· You can bookmark, highlight and type in notes in your e-reader.
How e-reading devices differ - there are two e-reader technologies: E-ink, and LED-backlit.
E-ink:
· Looks like an Etch-A-Sketch. Charcoal-colored words appear on a pale gray background. No color.
· You CAN read e-ink in the sunshine.
· E-ink is not backlit so it does NOT cause eye-strain, nor does it disrupt sleep patterns.
· Kindle, one version of Nook, Sony, and Kobo all use E-ink technology.
· They only weigh about 8 ounces.
· CHOOSE E-INK IF: you like to read outside, in the car or before bed.
· PRICE: $129 - $189
LED-backlit:
· Full color, brightness can be adjusted.
· IS backlit and can cause eyestrain similar to a computer screen.
· Nook Color, iPad/iPhone and Android phone screens all use LED technology.
· CHOOSE NOOK COLOR IF: you read indoors in a lighted room, subscribe to eMagazines, read illustrated books.
· PRICE: $249
· CHOOSE iPad IF: you read indoors in a lighted room, subscribe to eMagazines, read illustrated books and want a mini-computer.
· PRICE: $499 - $699
· Shop in Amazon's Kindle Store. Download the FREE Kindle App on your phone, laptop or desktop computer and read on a device you already own.
· PRICE: $0
The book and print industry have gone largely unchanged since Johannes Guttenberg first pressed for profit back in 1450. While his invention inarguably changed the world, we are probably due for another change. Jump in - the reading's fine!
Speaking of change, is it time you found a new brand of hero? Please allow me to help.
For every 10 people who comment here, I will give away one free e-copy of A Woman of Choice - the beginning of the trilogy. And, yes. Commenter #11 warrants 2 copies! Comment #21? I'll give away three.
BUT WAIT! THERE'S MORE!
In February at the end of my blog tour, I'll give away one SIGNED PAPERBACK SET of the trilogy. Here's how you can get in on that deal:
1. Go to http://www.kristualla.com/ and find the "Secret Word" on my home page.
2. Send an email to ktualla@cox.net with "Signed Trilogy Giveaway" in the subject line. Put the secret word in the body.
3. Comment on any blog at any time in the tour to activate your entry. Each day's blog location is listed at http://kristualla.wordpress.com/blog-tour-dates-locations/
A Woman of Choice, A Prince of Norway, and A Matter of Principle are all available at http://www.goodnightpublishing.com/ - and they are only $3.49 each as an eBook!
A Woman of Choice - Missouri Territory, 1819
A woman is viciously betrayed and abandoned by her unfaithful husband. She is rescued by a widower uninterested in love. In desperation, she becomes engaged to his best friend. One woman, three very different men. Life is about choices.
A Prince of Norway - Christiania, Norway, 1820
American-born Nicolas Hansen has been asked to candidate for his great-grandfather's throne. His new wife Sydney isn't about to let him go to Norway and face that possibility alone. The moment they arrive at Akershus Castle, the political intrigue and maneuvering begin. Can Sydney trust anyone? Will Nicolas resist the seduction of power? Or will he claim the throne for himself? Most importantly: will their young marriage survive the malicious mischief of the ambitious royal family?
A Matter of Principle - St. Louis, State of Missouri, 1821
Nicolas Hansen has returned from Norway determined to change the world. But when he runs for State Legislator in the brand-new state of Missouri, the enemies he made over the past two years aren't about to step quietly aside. Sydney has made enemies of her own, both by marrying Nicolas and by practicing midwifery. When a newspaper reporter makes it his goal to destroy them, Nicolas must rethink his path once again. But this time, it's a matter of principle.

Only a few days left to enter to win a genuine cameo!
I love doing contests. It’s a great way to spread the word about my books, and since I do jewelry as prizes, I get to shop for sparklies. It’s a win-win for me. :}I can’t be sure how many readers I’ve actually garnered from doing my author contests, but I love that I can reward my readers for their loyalty to me and my books. I have readers that have been signed up for my newsletter for years, and I’m always excited when the random number generator picks their number.
I have a contest for a Victorian cameo running on my website now for my latest release, my Victorian romance, MY UNFAIR LADY. (It’s an easy one to enter…I’ve posted a copy of it below.) With my RELICS OF MERLIN series, it was easy to choose the prize, since each magical relic was spelled in a specific jewel. For my new series, THE ELVEN LORDS, I wasn’t quite sure what to choose. There are no magical jewels in these books (although there are magical scepters), so I just kept thinking, what would be a perfect prize for romance readers?
Two words. Chocolate. And diamonds.
So how about chocolate diamond jewelry for prizes? Oh, yes, I had a great time shopping for those! I’m only sad that the first book in the series, THE FIRE LORD’S LOVER, isn’t scheduled for release until July 2010. But since I always do promotions months in advance, I’ll be able to start those contests after I award the winner of the cameo for MY UNFAIR LADY. Gotta love contests. :}
Warmly,
Kathryne
THIRD cameo contest for MY UNFAIR LADY Help me launch the December 2009 release of my Victorian romance novel, MY UNFAIR LADY! Just sign up for Kathryne Kennedy's newsletter at: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/KathryneKennedy/
A winner will be randomly chosen using RANDOM.ORG. Existing newsletter subscribers are automatically entered. Your information will be kept confidential. Contest ends February 28, 2010. Void where prohibited by law. You must be 18 years or older to enter. No prize substitution permitted. This contest is subject to all federal, state and local laws and regulations.

Tuesday, October 13, 2009
Congratulations to the winner of the 'email a friend' contest.
She received the beautiful cameo pictured above. The winner, Chanda N. from Texas, wrote: Thanks, I rarely win anything, so when I do, I feel it's a great honor. And especially from an author I love to read. Please keep putting out the great books. It's always such a treat for me when a true fan wins!
Chanda's friend, Kira N., also from Texas, won an item of her choice from my e-store, a messenger bag with the fairy on a rose design.
So don't forget to check out my current contest at: http://www.kathrynekennedy.com/contest.html
