VEILED, by Caris Roane

Hi, Everyone! I'm working hard on the sequel to AWAKENING, called VEILED. It took me a long time to come up with just the right title for the second installment of RAPTURE'S EDGE. The creation of both the title and the book for episode two, have taken so much longer than I expected. But each time I would sit down to work on the book, it was the entire series that called to me and kept offering up all sorts of intriguing ideas. I'd have pen in hand with the intention of sketching out ideas for VEILED, then some odd concept for episode sixteen would call to me.
After a couple of weeks of this, I surrendered to my apparent need to attend to the series as a whole and it's been a wonderful journey so far.
RAPTURE'S EDGE is the continuation of my Guardians of Ascension work, my beloved series that saw only six books with a NY publisher. It's heartbreaking to have a series cancelled especially when I'd planned soooo many books since I'd imagined such a big world.
With self-publishing, I can get back to the characters I love and a world that inspires me. Just for fun, I've included some of the pics I use to keep my imagination fired up.
Happy reading!

Japanese Cover for THE FIRE LORD'S LOVER

Many thanks go to Sourcebooks Rights Manager Sara Hartman-Seeskin for the sale of the foreign rights to Japan for THE FIRE LORD'S LOVER...AND for sending me a copy of the book. Here's a copy of the Japanese cover:

How cool is that? I lived several years in Okinawa when my dad was in the Air Force, and have fond memories of the people and island, so this is especially thrilling for me. My son has a friend who is studying the Japanese language, and I'm looking forward to her translating some of the book to me. It will be fascinating to hear how my voice has changed (although I imagine much will be in the hands of the translator, hence her name right by mine on the cover). It's interesting that the book is about 2/3 the size of an American paperback. It also has a dust jacket, which you usually only see on hardcover books.

Have I mentioned lately how much I adore my publisher, Sourcebooks?

Below is a picture of my family in Okinawa, and the backside of me running after my older sister on a beach in Okinawa. We lived there from 1963-65. The photo after that is, of course, my American cover of THE FIRE LORD'S LOVER.
