Our Christmas traditions have changed since David's parents passed away, but our holiday rituals have begun to take shape again the last couple of years. I try to shop for Christmas presents year-round, but ruin my grand plans for an organized holiday by waiting until the last minute to wrap them. 8-) Every year, we get a new Christmas CD or two, and we start listening to carols right after Thanksgiving. Sometimes our friends, who are musicians, come over, and we "jam" Christmas songs until we're too tired to sing or play. The man who lives behind us has one of the best light displays in town, and we always enjoy looking at it. On Christmas Eve, we have a family dinner and go to church. The next day, we don't get up as early as we did when the kids were little, so Christmas morning is pretty leisurely. I make a big brunch, which we eat after the presents are opened, and then we go to a movie which is chosen by the greatest number of votes--or the loudest voices! Afterwards, we eat leftovers, play with our gifts, and call Kansas to see how our relatives back there are doing. This Christmas will be the first one without our son since he and his wife have moved to Chicago. Also, my favorite aunt is dying of lung cancer, so the holidays haven't been as jolly as they usually are.
